Lauren Timney

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Hello, my name is Lauren Timney. I am one of three Co-Founders of Discovery Counseling Services. During your time of need, I would love to help and inspire you towards your recovery.

I achieved my Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Psychology with University of Phoenix. I am currently enrolled and actively pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Research of Human Behavior at Capella University.

As a Mental Health Counselor, I have many years of clinical and private practice experience with children and adults. I counsel individuals and groups to promote optimum mental and emotional health. I enjoy helping individuals and groups develop a personal and/or developmental plan to implement positive influences in their life, while evaluating broad or specific issues such as: addictions, substance abuse, family dynamics, parenting, marital problems, stress management, self-esteem, aging, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

My goal as your counselor is to provide you and/or family members with the best quality and most comforting service I can provide. My partners and I expanded our practice from Jacksonville to Merritt Island in order to provide the Space Coast access to quality mental health care and counseling services, while also being located near military installations.  As a Spouse of a Navy veteran, one of my passions is to help counsel service members and their family during the trying times of active duty as well as recovery after military service.

I look forward to meeting you and envision that your time spent at Discovery Counseling Services LLC will be a healthy and productive experience towards accomplishing your life's goals.

Casey O' Brien

Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern

Welcome to Discovery Counseling Services! My name is Casey O’Brien, and I would like to congratulate you on taking a brave step toward your own positive mental health and healing. All too often our society attempts to shame individuals simply for being human and needing a little extra help to get through the challenges of everyday life. But I am here to let you know that there is no reason to be ashamed and you do not have to face your demons and obstacles alone. We are here to support you on your journey, whatever it may entail. Should you find it beneficial, or should it help make you more comfortable, I have included some more information about myself and my background below.

Though I have always been a helper by nature, my real calling was discovered when a friend of mine, a U.S. soldier, returned from repeated deployments to combat zones. As was only natural and expected, his experiences changed him, and I found myself desperate to understand those changes and the difficulties he was having in readjusting to “normal” life. So, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2012. Though it took some time to overcome some obstacles of my own, I eventually joined the U.S. Marine Corps, an experience that will forever have a special place in my heart, as it only solidified my conviction that I am meant to help and serve others in this life. Following my honorable discharge in 2018, I returned to UCF where I spent two years earning my Master of Social Work degree. Simultaneously, I completed two graduate certificate programs, earning certifications in Military Social Work and Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy. Not long after graduating I registered with the State of Florida to begin the next leg of my journey providing clinical mental health services to those in need.

While as a student and as a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern, I have had the phenomenal opportunity and privilege of working with a diverse group of clients who have never ceased to amaze me with their resiliency, insight, and strength. This group has included veterans, active-duty military, first responders, adolescent offenders, survivors of mass tragedies, and more. And just as diverse as their backgrounds and professions, was the reasons they sought help with their mental health care needs. So, I am confident that you and I, through patience and compassion, can come together to overcome the challenges you are currently facing. Each of these challenges is merely an opportunity for personal growth and enrichment in disguise.

Whatever your choice may be, I wish you nothing but the best in your journey here at Discovery Counseling Services!
